A Provision of Kingdom Living

I. What is a Battle Cry???

A. Definition

1. According to Webster’s New World College Dictionary…

A Battle Cry is a cry or a slogan used to encourage those in a battle, a struggle, or a contest.

2. According to Nation Master Encylopedia.com…

A Battle cry is a yell, chant, or a cry which is called in battle usually by the members of the same military unit.

3. It is used to invoke a religious or patriotic sentiment, and to cause intimidation on the hostile side.

B. Examples

1. First example— Historic

World War I U.S. Marines… “E-E-E- YAH-YIP!!!!!!”

2 Second Example —Contemporary

September 11th, 2001 Flight 93 passenger Todd Beamer. – “Are U Ready? Let’s Roll!”

II. The Battle Cry & Spiritual Warfare

A. The Battle Cry

1. Our battle cry is our praise!

2. We use it during spiritual warfare.

3. Scripture:

1. First Example

Joshua 6: 1-11, 14-17, 20-22

a. Joshua 6:1-11 (King James Version)

Joshua 6

1Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.

2And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.

3And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.

4And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.

5And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.

6And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD.

7And he said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city, and let him that is armed pass on before the ark of the LORD.

8And it came to pass, when Joshua had spoken unto the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns passed on before the LORD, and blew with the trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed them.

9And the armed men went before the priests that blew with the trumpets, and the rereward came after the ark, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.

10And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.

11So the ark of the LORD compassed the city, going about it once: and they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.

b. Joshua 6:14-17 (King James Version)

14And the second day they compassed the city once, and returned into the camp: so they did six days.

15And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times.

16And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city.

17And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the LORD: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.

c. Joshua 6:20-22 (King James Version)

20So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

21And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.

22But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot's house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her.

d. Joshua…..

a. Joshua was obedient to God’s command. He knew God was his Commander – in- Chief

b. The Israelites followed Joshua’s orders; they marched around the city of Jericho 6 days.

They were very careful to follow Joshua’s orders, Saints; we must be obedient to God’s commands!

c. Upon the 7th day they marched around the city 7 times and upon their 7th march…

…the 7 priest blew their trumpets as loud as they could and the Israelites began to shout their battle and the city of Jericho was destroyed.

d. The only people who were saved where Rahab and her household. The Israelites were successful because they were obedient to God.

2. A Second Example

Judges 7: 18-22

a. Judges 7:18-22 (King James Version)

18When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that are with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.

19So Gideon, and the hundred men that were with him, came unto the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch; and they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers that were in their hands.

20And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal: and they cried, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.

21And they stood every man in his place round about the camp; and all the host ran, and cried, and fled.

22And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and the LORD set every man's sword against his fellow, even throughout all the host: and the host fled to Bethshittah in Zererath, and to the border of Abelmeholah, unto Tabbath.

b. Gideon

1. Gideon and 300 Israelite men were chosen by God.

God did not want any men who did not trust him and had fear in their heart.

God wanted brave soldiers!

301 men including Gideon against an army of thousands of Midianites…

Some thought it was impossible…but All things are possible with God!

2. God told Gideon to wake up, go to the camp, the victory has been won! Gideon obeyed God

and went to the camp. Gideon told his men to imitate him, and they blew their trumpets, broke

pitchers, and cried their battle cry: “THE SWORD OF THE LORD AND OF GIDEON!!!”

The Midianites thought they were outnumbered by the Israelites and ….

they ran out of their camp, yelled, and began to fight each other. They were so afraid they killed each other.

God planned this event so that we may see his glory, might, and power!

God will train us and he will instruct us in preparing for spiritual warfare!

3. Scriptures:

A. Psalm 144: 1 (KJV)

Blessed be the LORD my strength which teaches my hands to war, and my fingers to fight:

God has trained our hands for war, and our fingers have been trained for battle.

B. Psalm 27: 1-3

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

2When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

3Though a host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.

There is nothing to fear! God is our strength! We should remain calm and confident because our God has defeated Satan and God has proclaimed the victory!

___________________________________________

C. Romans 8: 31

31What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

_______________________________________________

D. Isaiah 54: 17

17No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.

a. No weapons that are formed against us shall prosper and because we are servants of the Lord, it is our inheritance to refute every tongue that rise against us.

b. This is our vindication, declared the Lord.

III. The Armour of God

A. Questions

1. How does one prepare for battle???

B. Answer

1. Ephesians 6: 10-18

10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11Put on the whole armor of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

1. We must wear the entire armour of God, it is a provision of kingdom living.

IV. Praise- “a provision of kingdom living!”

A. Question

Did you know that your praise is a mighty weapon of warfare?

B. Answer

1. Your praise intimidates Satan.

2. When you wake up every day, Satan should be trembling!

3. Satan should fear you because you are a mighty warrior of God!

4. Circumstances…

1. What about them???

2. No problem is too big for God to solve!

3. No storm is too big for God to dissolve

a. Don’t tell GOD how big your storm is...TELL THE STORM HOW BIG your GOD IS!!!

b. In all circumstances, we must continue to praise God! We must continue to shout our battle cry which is our praise!

1. James 1: 2-6

2My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

3Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

4But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

5If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

6But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. _________________________________________________________

2. Psalm 121: 1-3

1I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

2My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

3He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

______________________________________________

3. 2 Timothy 1: 7

7For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

______________________________________________

We must continue to look up to Jesus who is our help, in his arms there is no fear.

In the arms of Jesus is where we will find safety, peace, and hope.
